Britestream Networks Awarded Patent on Memory Processing Technology

Austin, TX – December 14, 2004 – Britestream Networks, a catalyst for the creation of a ubiquitous, secure and private Internet today announced that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has granted the company U.S. patent 6,738,874, entitled "Controller Architecture and Strategy for Small Discontiguous Accesses to High-Density Memory Devices". The patent covers a key area of competitive differentiation for Britestream’s Instream Security Processing Architecture.

The technology covered in the patent provides a memory architecture that enables the use of high-density, low power, and lower cost devices while providing adequately high bandwidth in accessing small blocks of data associated with each TCP connection. The bandwidth issues are addressed by optimizing the order in which requests are made from memory to minimize overhead.

" When developing our solution, we discovered several bottlenecks to processing data at wire speed", says Les Zsohar Director of Systems Architecture at Britestream Networks and the inventor behind this patent. "For instance, there are significant data and state storage requirements with TCP processing. One aspect of our overall solution required us to provide a method to use standard dynamic RAM memory devices, which normally couldn’t keep up with wire speed throughput with these types of accesses, in order to reduce the total system cost to our customers."

" The technology behind this patent is just one of the innovations that allow Britestream to provide deterministic performance with our Instream Security Processing architecture", says Mike Salas, VP of Marketing for Britestream Networks. "Our performance claims are both predictable and achievable in real world applications."

Britestream’s Instream Security Processing architecture is the foundation for the BN1010 SSL Security NIC. The BN1010 is the world’s first SSL NIC that is completely self-contained and manages all facets of SSL processing on a single PCI card. It couples powerful simplicity and uncompromised performance with fortified protection.
