PressBritestream® Introduces New SSL Load Balancing Appliance Leading-Edge SSL Offload Combined with Load Balancing Delivers Unmatched Price-Performance Austin, Texas – August 22, 2006 – Britestream Networks, a leading provider of hardware-based data privacy technology, today announced the BN5000 SSL Load Balancer. The BN5000 combines Britestream’s award-winning SSL offload technology and load balancing functionality into a convenient 1U rack-mount appliance. Now customers and channel partners have their choice of form factor from Britestream. The BN5000 is ideal for SSL-protected applications such as e-commerce, online banking and Internet equity trading. These applications require rapid application response time and cannot be burdened by the performance impact of decrypting the incoming SSL traffic. For these applications, the BN5000 not only delivers industry-leading SSL price-performance but also offers load balancing features commonly needed for data center environments. For organizations that already have load balancing appliances installed, the BN5000 can serve as a cost-effective SSL offload device. This preserves the original investment while enhancing performance and scalability. The BN5000 also delivers fortified security features not available in most load balancers. Examples include strong cryptographic support (including AES-256), large key sizes (up to 4K) and secure storage of certificates and keys in tamper-proof hardware. Features such as these are especially important to government agencies and organizations subject to regulatory requirements. "We tested the BN5000 in our labs and have been using it for more than a month,” said Jason Sloderbeck, Director of Operations at Positive Networks. “It surprised us how much SSL performance Britestream was able to get into a 1U appliance by using their custom ASIC to handle the entire SSL session state, not just the cryptographic math."
